The new devices are aimed specifically at music enthusiasts and are designed to deliver exceptional sound via premium audio components incorporated into the hardware.
There are two new WM1 Walkman devices available from the manufacturer. The high-end Walkman Signature Series a gold-plated, oxygen-free copper chassis and is priced at a whopping £4,299.
The cheaper model dispenses with the gold-plated screws and chassis and specialised wiring, but it is still priced at a relatively hefty £2,099.
The new Walkman devices run on a specialised version of the Android mobile operating system and sport a 5.5-inch touch screen that allows users to navigate familiar streaming and music applications.
They also have a set of tactile playback buttons on the side for quick operation without needing to turn the screen on.
Audio features embedded in the devices include S-Master HX digital amp technology and compatibility with Native DSD file formats. They also run Sony’s DSD Remastering Engine, which resample PCM audio into a high-frequency stream for an experience closer to analogue listening.
The devices deliver up to 35 hours of 128kbps MP3 playback and can stream for up to 31 hours. The available memory on both devices is 207GB, allowing the devices to store over 60,000 songs in MP3 format.
They sport USB-C ports for power and data transfer, as well as a stereo mini jack and balanced standard jack for attaching headphones. Users can also expand the onboard storage with a MicroSD card. Connectivity options include Bluetooth, NFC, and Wi-Fi 802.11ax.
“The WM1 Series is designed to convey the artist’s original intent, delivering detailed, high-resolution sound,” Sony says.
“Developed in pursuit of exceptional sound quality, it captures subtle nuances throughout a performance, while maintaining clarity, scale and dynamics at higher volumes.”
The two new Walkman models are now available to order from the Sony website in the UK. They will begin shipping to customers in November 2026.
