Legendary US actor Morgan Freeman is lending his voice to the London Underground this week, reading out announcements at the Baker Street tube station.
The 88-year-old Freeman is well-known for his distinctive, authoritative voice, and has lent his gravitas to many acclaimed films, and his narration to award-winning documentaries.
On 18 and 19 March, commuters heading through the northbound Jubilee line platform at Baker Street will be treated to bread-related puns voiced by Freeman, including ‘mind the bap’ instead of ‘mind the gap’ and reminders to ‘stand behind the buttery yellow line’.
The bakery-themed TfL announcements read out by Freeman are part of an ongoing advertising campaign by bakery brand Warburtons to celebrate its 150-year anniversary.
The campaign also extends to the Baker Street platform being temporarily rebranded with bread-related signage.
For the duration of the campaign, selected signage on the platform will be changed to “Bakers Street” and the TfL roundel signage along the platform will be changed to giant crumpets.
“At Warburtons, we have a classic Northern sense of humour and we wanted to share a bit of that fun with Londoners on their daily commute and hopefully raise a few smiles,” said Warburtons chairman Jonathan Warburton.
“As you can probably tell, we also love a good bread pun, so Baker Street was a match made in heaven, and hearing a voice as legendary as Morgan Freeman’s booming to travellers on the platform is certainly a recipe for a memorable day!”
