giffgaff has opened a student-exclusive plan giving 100GB of data a month for £10 to anyone with a valid .ac.uk email address.
The plan runs on giffgaff’s £10 monthly rolling tariff, with the 100GB allowance applying for 12 months from the point the plan first goes live on the member’s account. The allowance holds while the plan stays set to auto-renew.
After that period giffgaff may withdraw the plan and move members onto a tariff of equivalent price. Students who buy a SIM under the offer must activate it before 4 August 2027.
Qualification is based on the email address registered to the account rather than any separate verification step. Students who cannot yet access their university inbox can still order a student SIM using any email address, then activate it once the .ac.uk address is available.
Members can buy the plan through the giffgaff app provided the .ac.uk address sits on the account.
Existing members qualify on the same terms. Anyone who held a giffgaff student plan previously moves onto the new offer automatically once the earlier promotion ends, though they still need access to the .ac.uk address originally used.
First-time student buyers update the email address on their account to the .ac.uk address to unlock the purchase.
What the plan includes
The tariff carries unlimited UK calls and texts alongside the data allowance, and giffgaff includes 5G at no extra cost for members using 5G handsets in 5G areas. Free EU roaming covers up to 5GB, and travel data add-ons extend to 38 countries.
Members can move up or down between plans at any point, whether on contract, monthly rolling or pay as you go. Anyone reaching a third plan purchase gets a further 1GB added to their allowance.
giffgaff runs on O2’s network and sits within the Virgin Media O2 group. Students switching from another network keep their existing number by texting PAC to 65075 and using the returned code after activating the giffgaff SIM.
A separate referral offer runs alongside the student plan until 31 August 2026, paying members £10 in Payback for each friend who joins and giving the new member £10 in credit.
