  • Cameras use iCloud+ for 10 days of video, with no extra subscription

Apple has launched a £229.95 video doorbell built by LG Electronics, arriving in the UK in December.

The doorbell forms part of Apple Home Collection, a new range of cameras, thermostats, sensors and a smart lock that Apple designed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. It puts Apple in direct competition with Amazon’s Ring doorbells in the UK.

Apple said users can set up each accessory with a single tap on an iPhone and manage everything through the Home app, with no separate app or account required.

“Apple Home Collection makes it easy to choose smart home accessories with confidence,” said Matthew Costello, Apple’s vice president of Hardware Engineering.

UK pricing

Apple will sell the LG cameras in the UK at the following starting prices:

  • LG Video Doorbell Wired: £229.95
  • LG Floodlight Cam: £349.95
  • LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In: £279.95
  • LG Indoor Cam Plug-In: £179.95

The doorbell, floodlight and outdoor camera come in Essence Graphite and Essence Silver, while the indoor camera comes in Essence White.

Sales start in December through Apple’s UK online store, the Apple Store app and Apple Store locations, with some accessories following in early 2027.

Two cameras in one doorbell

LG’s Video Doorbell uses two cameras, one facing visitors and one pointing down to capture packages left on the doorstep.

The front camera records in 2.5K resolution and the bottom camera records in full HD, with a built-in spotlight for darker conditions.

When someone rings, a chime plays through HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini and a notification appears on the user’s iPhone or iPad.

Users can then see the visitor, speak to them and unlock the door from wherever they are, either in a single view in the Home app or by asking Siri.

No separate camera subscription

Every camera in the range records up to 2.5K video and recognises people, familiar faces, pets, vehicles and packages.

Apple stores 10 days of event video history in users’ existing iCloud+ plans, so buyers do not need a separate camera subscription.

On eligible iCloud+ plans, Apple Intelligence adds automatic summaries of each clip and lets users search footage using everyday descriptive language.

Built-in storage keeps the cameras recording when the home Wi-Fi connection drops out.

The cameras need a home hub such as Apple HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K to work.

Apple said it encrypts camera footage and Home app data end-to-end, so neither LG, Schneider Electric nor Apple can access it.

The rest of the camera range

LG’s other three cameras include the following features:

  • Floodlight Cam: adaptive dual floodlights that switch on automatically when they detect motion, plus low-light colour night vision
  • Outdoor Cam: low-light colour night vision, an adjustable angle and simple self-installation
  • Indoor Cam: tilts up to view the room when users check in and tilts back down to stop monitoring when the first household member returns

Smart lock and thermostats

LG’s Smart Deadbolt Lock uses Ultra Wideband to detect a user with a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch approaching, and unlocks the door automatically.

Users can also tap to unlock, enter a code on the built-in PIN pad or use a hidden backup key, and can share guest access through the Home app.

The lock alerts users when the door is open, closed or tampered with, and its core functions keep working without an internet connection.

LG and Schneider Electric each make a Smart Thermostat that adjusts the temperature automatically depending on whether someone is home, winding down for the night or away.

“Working closely with Apple, we’ve co-created a more connected, intuitive, and convenient home experience for our customers,” said Kihyun Jung, Executive Vice President at LG Electronics.
