British consumer electronics company Nothing, which makes smartphones and audio devices, is taking on Apple, Sony, and Bose with a new pair of high-quality wireless headphones.
The Headphone (1) Pro was revealed on Tuesday 29 September and is the London-based company’s most advanced headphone to date, designed specifically to deliver studio-grade sound.
Alongside the company’s reveal of its new headphones, Nothing also announced that it has partnered with South Korean artist and former BTS member V, making the global star the company’s Global Brand Ambassador.
The Nothing Headphone (1) Pro is clearly aimed at taking on high-end audio devices from the likes of Apple, Sony, and Bose, which each offer high-end wireless headphones that focus on delivering the best possible sound.
The headphones have a triple-driver architecture, with each ear sporting a 40mm bass driver, a precision dynamic driver, and a dedicated tweeter for high-frequency tones.
The frequency ranges of the Headphone (1) Pro drivers are listed below:
- 40mm bass driver: 20Hz – 10kHz
- Precision dynamic driver: 5kHz – 15kHz
- xMEMS tweeter: 10kHz – 40kHz
The device is Hi-Res Audio certified and supports LDAC wireless connectivity for high-resolution sound over Bluetooth at 24-bit/96kHz or USB-C connectivity for lossless playback at 24-bit/192kHz. Headphone (1) Pro also has a 3.5mm audio jack for greater connection flexibility.
Headphone (1) Pro uses dynamic head tracking together with its triple-driver architecture to create a more immersive listening experience, supporting a range of spatial audio configurations, from Standard to Club or Concert Hall.
Some of the preset EQ profiles on the new headphones are based on genres shaped by British artists, including British Rock, UK Rap and Grime, and Neo-Jazz. The Nothing X app also allows you to easily customise and filter your EQ presets and drag tuning points freely across the headphone drivers’ complete range.
On the microphone side, the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro has a 10-mic system that allows for more effective noise cancelling, delivering what the company said is the best ANC it has ever put in a pair of headphones.
When listening wirelessly, the headphones sport up to 30 hours of listening with ANC on and 68 hours with ANC off, and 5 minutes of charge can power 2 hours of playback.
A hardshell protective case is included with the device, and the Nothing Headphone (1) Pro is available for £349 in the UK from the Nothing website.
