Google launches Gemini app for Windows

Google has launched a new Gemini app for Windows which is designed to work alongside your desktop operating system.

The application allows users to access AI help directly from their desktop with a simple keyboard shortcut. If you press Alt + Space with the Gemini app installed, the application will open over your active work.

This allows you to quickly ask Gemini for help with your current work, whether it’s fact-checking something in a document or generating text within a PowerPoint Presentation.

The Gemini app for Windows is capable of doing everything Gemini is used for elsewhere, and allows you to hand off tasks to Gemini Spark, a 24/7 personal AI agent available only to Google AI subscribers. As Gemini is linked to your Google account, it is capable of drafting directly to and pulling data from your Google Drive.

The Gemini Windows app also supports generating images and videos using tools such as Nano Banana or Gemini Omni from within the same interface.

You can easily share your screen with Gemini to quickly solve problems and even use the assistant to clean and organise your desktop folders.

Google said the Gemini app is designed to be “lightweight and quiet”, and to run without slowing down your PC.

It added that the launch of the Gemini Windows app was just the beginning of its integration with Microsoft’s operating system, and that more native desktop capabilities would roll out in the future.

Users can download the Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and 11 from the Gemini website.

The Gemini app is already available on Mac, and the AI assistant can be summoned on that OS by pressing Option + Space on your keyboard.
