London Waterloo station to close over Christmas
Train services to Waterloo station in London will be disrupted from 25 December to 4 January as engineering work is carried out between the station and Clapham Junction.
Network Rail has announced that as normal on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, there will be no train services.
Additionally, on Saturday 27 December and Sunday 28 December, no trains will call at London Waterloo due to vital engineering work.
Services will instead terminate at Clapham Junction on these days, with travellers required to make alternative travel arrangements as they continue their journeys.
On 29 and 30 December, the station will operate but will see major changes to services. There will also be major changes to services on 1 January 2026.
On 31 December and from 2 to 4 January, Waterloo will operate normall but will see minor changes to services as a result of the ongoing engineering work.
These disruptions are a result of Network Rail upgrading the rail infrastructure in the Queenstown Road area, replacing switches and crossing and stretches of track while also upgrading signalling equipment and improving power delivery systems for third-rail electrification.
Alterations will also be made to Platform 2 at Queenstown Road station, and those in the area can expect some noise and disturbance.
“Doing this work over a quieter period with less passengers travelling means less disruption over many weekends in busier periods,” Network Rail said.
“It will be an all-round better experience for passengers once the track is renewed, with fewer faults and fewer delays resulting in smoother and more reliable journeys.”
