Utility Warehouse is moving into car insurance

Key Points

  • Utility Warehouse will launch motor insurance between October 2026 and March 2027.
  • The launch follows a rebuild of its insurance systems on the OpenGI platform.
  • Motor cover joins energy, broadband, mobile and existing insurance on one monthly bill.
  • The company sold around 17,000 extra services to existing customers between April and July, against a 50,000 annual target.
  • A Post Office Plus pilot partnership is now live.

Utility Warehouse will start selling motor insurance to its customers in the second half of its financial year.

The launch follows a rebuild of the company’s insurance systems on OpenGI, a software platform used by insurance brokers, which Utility Warehouse says is progressing well and on schedule. The company confirmed the move in a trading update issued alongside its Annual General m=Meeting on Monday (17 August).

Utility Warehouse, owned by London-listed Telecom Plus, bundles energy, broadband, mobile and insurance into a single monthly household bill.

Customers join through a network of local Partners who recommend the service to people they know, rather than through price comparison sites or a direct sales team. Partner numbers have risen to more than 85,000, up from around 77,000 at the end of March.

The company is also pushing harder to sell additional services to people who already have an account. It sold roughly 17,000 core services to existing customers between April and July, and is targeting 50,000 across the full financial year.

A pilot partnership with the Post Office, branded Post Office Plus, has gone live, and the company is the named utilities partner for the football National League. A new advertising campaign covering television, radio, billboards and local activity launches early in the autumn.

Telecom Plus expects adjusted profit before tax of £80 million to £90 million for the year to March 2027.
