Netflix’s latest weekly charts were taken over by the world’s most anticipated video game preview this week, with the first look at the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI racking up millions of views around the globe.
Netflix said the first-of-its-kind premier, Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, soared to the top of the most-watched English films with 31.1 million views.
The feature was the number-one film on the platform in 87 of the 93 countries Netflix tracks globally, showing just how many people around the world are looking forward to the upcoming video game by Rockstar Games.
It beat out the crime thriller The Whisper Man, which had 23.2 million views, as well as Death of the Pastor’s Wife, which had 19 million views.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look provides a 26-minute showcase of what fans can expect from the upcoming video game, the latest instalment in the long-running and wildly popular Grand Theft Auto franchise.
The new iteration in the series comes 13 years following the debut of Grand Theft Auto V, which still enjoys a busy and engaged audience and online community.
“Grand Theft Auto reveals have become cultural moments in their own right. The anticipation and fandom around Grand Theft Auto VI is unprecedented, and we’re honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first,” said Netflix VP of Nonfiction Series Brandon Riegg.
“It’s a reflection of what we hope Netflix is becoming: a place where the most ambitious storytelling, from any medium, can find the biggest possible audience.”
The preview featured almost entirely in-game footage rather than the cinematic-only cuts Rockstar has used in previous trailers.
It provides an overview of various elements of the game, including the ability to switch between main characters, vehicle gameplay, combat mechanics, and much more.

Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on 19 November 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It is expected to come to PC at a later date.
