30 things Rockstar just revealed about GTA VI

Key Points

  • Rockstar's 26-minute GTA VI Extended Look was captured on a standard PS5
  • Players can switch between Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos mid-scene
  • A six-star wanted system returns, and police remember what you look like
  • Eating, drinking, working out and sleeping all affect the characters
  • Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November 2026

Rockstar Games has released a 26-minute Extended Look at Grand Theft Auto VI, captured on a standard PlayStation 5 ahead of the game’s launch on 19 November 2026.

The preview is almost entirely in-game footage rather than the cinematic-only cuts Rockstar has leaned on in previous trailers.

You can watch the full extended look trailer here:

Here are some of the things we learned from the trailer:

Jason and Lucia work as a pair

  • The footage follows protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos as a working partnership rather than two leads with separate storylines.
  • Players can switch control between the two characters, including mid-scene, driving as one while shooting as the other.
  • Their romance is optional, and players can either lean into the relationship or keep the pair as straightforward crime partners.
  • Holding hands is an actual in-game interaction, used as a visible measure of how close the two characters have become.
  • A morality system also runs underneath the game, with petting a dog producing a positive “angel” icon on screen.

Police can recognise you

  • Appearance is now a direct factor in gameplay, and clothing and looks can identify a player on security cameras and to police.
  • Officers remember what a suspect looked like, which means changing outfits helps shake off a wanted level.
  • The wanted system itself has six stars, one more than Grand Theft Auto V used.
  • Days spent on the run visibly wear on both characters through dirt, fatigue and general dishevelment.

Eating, sleeping and training all matter

  • Eating, drinking and working out affect body shape and health across the course of the game.
  • Sleep is part of the loop as well, with the pair needing to rest between jobs.
  • The game also brings back Red Dead Redemption 2-style contextual interactions, where holding a button opens greet and taunt-style prompts with nearby NPCs.

A wide variety of missions

  • Shop owners can shoot back during robberies rather than simply handing over the till.
  • A drug pickup for Boobie Ike goes wrong and turns into a shootout and an escape, staged in a detailed drug cookhouse where people mix product in masks and underwear.
  • The escape includes Jason lowering Lucia from an apartment window to the ground below.
  • A new character called Raul is introduced when the pair pick him up while he is fleeing police, with Lucia driving as Jason and Raul shoot from the car.
  • A stolen car can come with an unexpected passenger, and one sequence shows someone attempting a “trunk challenge” who livestreams their own hijacking.
  • Lucia can also fight unarmed, and one scene has her stabbing an attacker in the eye with a heel.
  • Quick-time events appear during melee combat, with button choices changing how a fight plays out.
  • A later story beat puts both characters in formal wear working security for Andrés de León at the Mega Mundo opening, which turns into a massacre when rivals crash the party.
  • In-game social media exists as well, and players can make moments go viral, with limits imposed by the fact the pair are on the run.

Side activities

The preview showed a long list of activities away from the main story, including:

  • Basketball, weightlifting, pool and mini-golf
  • Fishing, dirt-bike racing, street and drag racing, and e-scooters
  • Kayaking, scuba diving, jet skiing, swimming and fan boats in the Everglades
  • Base jumping and parachuting from Vice City high-rises
  • A zoo visit with Red Dead Redemption 2-style animal-study interactions
