Sky mobile to offer free global roaming

Sky now offers its longest-standing customers free global roaming in 120 destinations through Sky Mobile at no extra cost.
Sky VIP Diamond customers, those who have been with Sky for over 15 years, can use their Sky Mobile data, calls and text allowances abroad exactly as they would in the UK from Monday (20 July).
The benefit applies to any Diamond customer currently with or newly joining Sky Mobile, and works across all data plans.
It covers destinations spanning the EU/EEA, the USA, Australia, Thailand, India and more.
Sky claims the perk delivers meaningful savings against rival networks.
Based on a 5-day trip, the company said a Diamond customer roaming in the USA, Thailand or India pays £30 less than an EE customer using EE’s Zone 1 Pass, and up to £40 less than a Vodafone customer using Global Roam or Zone D Passes.
Sky expanded its roaming footprint from 55 to 120 destinations earlier this year, and this announcement builds on that coverage.
The feature requires nothing to install, download or set up. It activates automatically once an eligible customer uses 10MB of data or makes a call or text to a UK number while in one of the 120 destinations.
A fair usage cap of 25GB of roaming data applies per bill cycle, after which Sky charges additional usage on a pro-rated per GB basis.
How Sky’s offer compares with EE and Vodafone
Sky argues it is the only UK provider offering free global roaming on any data plan, though the benefit remains exclusive to Diamond VIP customers.
EE restricts inclusive roaming to Full Works plans, Three to Complete plans, Vodafone to Premier plans and O2 to Ultimate plans. Tesco Mobile, iD Mobile, Giffgaff, Lebara, VOXI, SMARTY, Talkmobile and Lyca Mobile do not include global roaming on any plan.
Sky noted that roaming in India, Thailand and the USA may be cheaper or included on some higher-tier EE and Vodafone plans, and its comparison covers standard plan customers using a daily pass over 5 days.
