Two more lines on the London Underground now have mobile coverage, as Transport for London (TfL) proceeds with its plan to bring coverage to the whole Tube network by the end of this year.
TfL and Boldyn Networks, its partner in the project to connect the Underground network, announced that more stations and tunnelled sections of the Tube now have high-speed mobile coverage.
These connected sections of the network now include the first sections of the District and Circle lines.
On the Circle and District lines, mobile coverage is now available between Blackfriars and Cannon Street, and between Notting Hill Gate and Bayswater.
Along with the already fully connected Elizabeth line, 62 out of 121 Underground stations now have mobile coverage in their ticket halls, corridors, and on their platforms.
These include Euston Square, Cannon Street, and Battersea Power Station, all of which now offer 4G and 5G mobile coverage.
High-speed mobile coverage is set to roll out to platforms and underground sections of King’s Cross St Pancras, Gloucester Road, Warwick Avenue, and Vauxhall in the coming months.
More tunnelled sections of the network are set to receive coverage as TfL progresses towards its goal of connecting the entire Tube network, with the operator expecting the vast majority of the Northern and Metropolitan lines to have mobile coverage in their tunnels by the end of summer.
Mobile coverage will also be rolled out across the entirety of the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and a section of the Windrush line between Highbury & Islington and New Cross.
“The latest stations and tunnels going live means that we are on a clear path towards having 4G and 5G mobile coverage across the whole network by the end of 2026,” said TFL Director of Engineering and Asset Strategy Isabel Coman.
“Engineers are working hard overnight during the limited engineering hours to deliver this programme, and we hope that customers enjoy benefitting from being able to stay in contact with friends and family, shop online and stay on top of the latest news and sports results while travelling across London.”
