- Starmer appoints 25 Labour peers to strengthen support in House of Lords: Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed 25 Labour peers, including a number of former senior government and party aides in an attempt to strengthen his hand in the House of Lords. Matthew Doyle, a former No 10 director of communications, and Katie Martin, a former chief of staff to Rachel Reeves, will be among those appointed to the upper house. [The Guardian]
- UK banks to tell you where you might put your money: People who might otherwise turn to friends, family, or social media influencers for financial advice are to be given new help to invest their money. Targeted support from registered banks and other financial firms is being given the go-ahead by the City regulator and should start in April. This will allow firms to make investment and pensions recommendations based on what similar groups of people could do with their money. [BBC]
- Britain’s youth unemployment rising at fastest pace in G7: Youth unemployment has risen faster in the UK than anywhere else in the G7 amid a jobs crisis for under-25s. The youth unemployment rate has surged to over 15pc from just under 11pc three years ago – the sharpest rise among the G7 nations of France, Germany, Italy, Canada, Japan, the US and UK, according to a new report from PwC. Graduate hiring is tumbling while the retail industry is also shrinking, PwC said, robbing youngsters of two traditional routes into the world of work. [Telegraph]
- Jamie Oliver to relaunch his Italian restaurant chain: Jamie Oliver is resurrecting his collapsed Italian restaurant chain, mounting a return to the high street despite what he described as one of the most hostile trading environments the hospitality sector has ever faced. The celebrity chef, whose chain of Italian-themed eateries fell into administration six years ago, is reviving the Jamie’s Italian brand under a franchise partnership with Brava Hospitality Group, the owner of Prezzo.
