The sunniest, hottest, and rainiest cities in the UK

Travel product company Trtl Travel compared official metrics from the Met Office to determine the hottest, sunniest, and rainiest cities in the United Kingdom.

Comparing average annual sunshine hours, temperature, and precipitation, Trtl Travel surprisingly found London to rank above many other cities in terms of sunshine hours and temperature.

The capital also does not feature among the rainiest cities in the UK, making it a relatively attractive destination for those seeking local hotspots for clear skies and fair weather.

Trtl Travel found that the sunniest city in the country was Bristol with an average of 138.19 sunshine hours per year, while Glasgow was the gloomiest with only 102.83 annual sunshine hours.

Cardiff was both the UK’s hottest and rainiest city, with an average annual temperature of 14.92°C and only 100.27mm of precipitation each year.

Data used in this comparison is available from the Met Office and is sourced from weather stations used for local meteorological forecasts.

Below are the sunniest, hottest, and rainiest cities in the United Kingdom, ranked by their annualised average sunshine hours, temperature, and precipitation, respectively.
