- £14.2 billion Sizewell C power station to be built: The UK’s biggest nuclear programme in a generation has been announced by Energy Secretary Ed Miliband. The government has set aside £14.2 billion to build a new nuclear power station and small modular reactors. [Guardian]
- All set for Wednesday’s Spending Review: The government’s latest spending plans are settled ahead of the Spending Review on Wednesday. Chancellor Rachel Reeves is expected to announce funding increases for the NHS, schools and defence, along with a number of infrastructure projects, when she sets out her day-to-day spending and investment plans tomorrow. - Housing bank to be launched: Reeves is expected to launch a ‘housing bank’, to be announced as early as Wednesday’s spending review, alongside a potential long-term funding settlement for affordable homes of up to £25 billion. [Financial Times]
- Poor UK jobs numbers: UK Unemployment has ticked higher to 4.6%, the highest level since July 2021, as most jobs have been shed since the pandemic. Wage growth has also come in lower than expected. [Bloomberg]
- On Tuesday, Oil was trading slightly higher at $67.22 a barrel. The pound was trading at £1.35 to the dollar, £1.18 to the euro and £9.69 to the yuan.
