New Harry Potter TV show – Every cast member revealed so far
HBO recently confirmed the actors who will play Harry, Ron, and Hermione in its new Harry Potter TV show after a nationwide casting call.
The show, which promises to be faithful to the books by J.K. Rowling, is expected to start filming this summer, and several other prominent cast members have already been announced.
More than 30,000 children auditioned for the roles of the lead trio after an open casting call was announced last year for the series.
Characters including Albus Dumbledore, Argus Filch, Severus Snape, and Minerva McGonagall have already been cast, and more casting announcements are expected as the start of filming approaches.
While it’s rebooting the beloved franchise as a new series for television, the original Harry Potter films will remain available to watch around the world.
Here are the cast members confirmed for the new Harry Potter show so far, alongside the portrayal of their characters in the original Warner Bros. films.
Harry Potter – Dominic McLaughlin
The eponymous Harry Potter is best known for surviving Voldemort’s attack as a baby and becomes a central figure in the fight against him.
Ron Weasley – Alastair Stout
Ron is Harry’s close friend and a member of the Weasley family who is known for his loyalty and exploits with Harry and Hermione.
Hermione Granger – Arabella Stanton
Hermione is a top student at Hogwarts and close friend of Harry and Ron who is recognised for her intelligence, rule-following, and problem-solving skills.
Minerva McGonagall – Janet McTeer
The Deputy Headmistress and Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts , Minerva McGonagall is strict, fair, and highly respected by students and staff.
Rubeus Hagrid – Nick Frost
Hagrid is the Hogwarts groundskeeper who is known for his kindness and love of magical creatures.
Albus Dumbledore – John Lithgow
Albus Dumbledore is the Headmaster of Hogwarts, widely respected as a powerful wizard and a key character in the fight against Voldemort.
Severus Snape – Paapa Essiedu
As he first appears in Harry Potter, Severus Snape is the cold and intimidating Hogwarts Potions Master, but his character is among those that evolves most over the course of the novels.
Argus Filch – Paul Whitehouse
Argus Filch is the caretaker at Hogwarts who cannot perform magic and is known for his dislike of students and affection for his cat.
Quirinus Quirrell – Luke Thallon
Professor Quirinus Quirrell is Hogwarts’ nervous and stammering Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher who appears easily frightened and unsure of himself.
