First Great British Railways trains for Anglia revealed

Key Points

  • Great British Railways (GBR) Anglia has unveiled its new GBR-branded trains at London Liverpool Street station.
  • GBR Anglia is a unification of c2c, Greater Anglia, and Network Rail Anglia under a single identity and leadership team.
  • Customers will see more trains bearing the new livery in the coming months as they are repainted on an ongoing basis.
  • Signage and wayfinding will also be updated to reflect the new identity, and the Stansted Express will be branded as GBR Stansted Express.

Great British Railways (GBR) Anglia unveiled the new GBR-branded trains at London Liverpool Street station on Thursday 16 July 2026.

The Class 357 and Class 720 trains bear the red, white, and blue Great British Railways livery and are operated by GBR Anglia, which unifies c2c, Greater Anglia, and Network Rail Anglia into a new identity under a single leadership team.

Class 357 trains will receive the new GBR livery as they pass through c2c’s existing fleet repaint and planned maintenance programme, which means customers will begin to see more trains sporting the new branding in the coming months.

GBR branding is also being gradually introduced across station signage and wayfinding, with the goal of delivering the transition efficiently with minimal disruption to customers.

The integrated rail operator aims to improve interoperability between entities, as seen by the securing of approval for Greater Anglia Class 720 trains to operate on the c2c network. This will directly help the railway respond more effectively when trains are unavailable or services are disrupted.

The creation of GBR Anglia has also led to closer planning between Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia, which has allowed overnight Friday Stansted Express services to be trialled on the network. This would give customers arriving on late flights or taking early departures easier travel options to Stansted airport.

The Stansted Express will also be rebranded as GBR Stansted Express, retaining its internationally recognised identity and avoiding potential confusion for customers visiting from abroad.

Existing train services, tickets and customer arrangements will not change as a result of the rebranding or consolidation of these services.

“Seeing the first GBR Anglia trains together at London Liverpool Street is a proud moment and a clear sign of the railway we are building. More importantly, the new identity reflects c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia increasingly planning and delivering as one railway,” said GBR Anglia managing director Jamie Burles.

“We are already creating greater flexibility across our train fleets, planning major events more effectively and using closer track-and-train working to trial new services for customers,” he said.

“There is much more to do, but we have made a strong start. Our focus is on turning that progress into better journeys and a more reliable, responsive and efficient railway for everyone who depends on us.”
