TfL announces free 60-minute bike rides in London on Sundays in July

Key Points

  • Cycle Sundays is back, giving everyone in London unlimited free 60-minute rides on Santander Cycles on Sundays throughout July.
  • Riders need only enter a promo code when buying a Day Pass on a Sunday to receive their pass for free and enjoy 24 hours of unlimited 60-minute rides.
  • The promotion also applies to Santander e-bikes, but riders will need to register for free on the app before applying it to their Day Pass purchase.

Transport for London (TfL) and Santander Cycles have announced that everyone in London will be provided with unlimited free 60-minute rides on Sundays in July.

The Sunday Cycles scheme gives everyone unlimited 60-minute rides on Santander Cycles every Sunday from 5 – 26 July, and aims to encourage Londoners and visitors to explore the capital by bike during the warmer summer months.

To redeem these free rides, you need only to visit the Santander Cycles discounts page or the Santander app to get a code for the appropriate Sunday.

You can then redeem this code at any docking station by selecting the Day Pass option and entering the code. Riders will still need to use their bank card or phone to complete the process, however.

These promo codes give customers a Day Pass for the Sunday, usually priced at £3.50, which allows them unlimited 60-minute rides within a 24-hour period.

The Santander Cycles promo codes for each Sunday in July are shown below:

  • CYCLEJULY5 (5 July)
  • CYCLEJULY12 (12 July)
  • CYCLEJULY19 (19 July)
  • CYCLEJULY26 (26 July)

As part of this offer, riders can also redeem Day Passes for Santander e-bikes, but they will need to have signed up for a free membership first.

To further encourage cycling in the capital, TfL has partnered with Strava and komoot to make it easier to plan cycle routes across London. This means a list of routes is now available via the TfL Cycle Sunday Club on both these apps, allowing riders to view the route maps with real-time directions and traffic data.

Later this year, a new contract will see TfL launch a new app, provide more ways to hire bikes, overhaul its docking stations, and deliver more e-bikes to its fleet.

It will also continue to expand and invest in the capital’s Cycleways network and bicycle infrastructure.

“Cycling is a fantastic way to get around London, especially now that we’ve grown our Cycleways network by nearly five times, helping people of all abilities to cycle safely across the capital,” said Will Norman, Walking and Cycling Commissioner for the Mayor of London.

“The Mayor and I encourage everyone – especially those new to cycling – to take up these free Sunday bike rides and to use our cycle routes to travel around our great city as we continue building a safer, greener, better London for all.”
