Sky is taking on Ring with a £5-a-month smart doorbell – Pricing and details

Sky has launched its Smart Home service as a standalone offering, directly challenging Amazon’s Ring in the competitive UK smart doorbell and home security market with aggressively low pricing that bundles hardware and essential features.

The new Sky Smart Home starts at £15 upfront plus £5 per month for the entry-level plan, which includes the Sky Smart Doorbell, a Chime, and a 24-month Smart Home Plan subscription.

Sky claims this setup delivers over £100 in savings compared to a comparable Ring battery doorbell and chime product over the minimum term, based on upfront hardware and monthly subscription costs as of mid-April 2026.

What’s included?

The basic Smart Doorbell with Smart Home Plan package delivers:

  • 1080p full HD camera with night vision
  • Live video streaming
  • Two-way talk
  • Bell push alerts and intelligent motion notifications
  • 30 days of cloud video recording
• Video saving and sharing options
  • Customisable activity zones to reduce false alerts
  • Dedicated tech support

All of this is managed through a single Sky Smart Home app, which provides step-by-step setup guidance and live chat support.

For households wanting broader coverage, Sky offers the Smart Home Bundle with Smart Home Plan+ at £20 upfront and £8 per month.

This adds an indoor camera (also 1080p with night vision and two-way talk) plus extras like scheduled and auto-arm modes, and the ability to expand with compatible add-ons such as leak detectors, motion sensors, and contact sensors.

Sky positions the service as “smart home made simple,” emphasising ease of use over complexity.

The system does not require a Sky broadband, TV, or insurance subscription to purchase, though Sky Diamond VIP customers on eligible broadband packages can get 30% off the plan.

Taking aim at Ring’s subscription model

Sky’s pitch leans heavily into value. Many rival systems, including Ring, charge separately for hardware and then require ongoing subscriptions to unlock cloud recording, video history, and advanced notifications.

Ring’s Protect plans start at around £4.99 per month for basic single-device coverage with video history, scaling up for multiple devices or premium features.

Hardware costs for Ring doorbells and chimes vary but often push the total outlay higher when factoring in the full subscription commitment over 24 months.

Sky includes 30-day cloud storage in its base £5 monthly fee, along with the doorbell and chime hardware upfront for just £15. The company calculates the total 24-month cost advantage at more than £100 versus the most comparable Ring offering.

“Sky Smart Home is about making high-quality smart tech more accessible. We’ve taken the features customers value most and made them easy to use, simple to manage and affordable, so staying connected to home feels effortless rather than complicated,” said Paul Sweeney, Managing Director of Sky Smart Home.
