Amazon launches 30-minute delivery service in the UK – Amazon Now
Retail giant Amazon has announced the launch of Amazon Now – a new ultra-fast delivery service offering thousands of groceries and household essentials in about 30 minutes or less.
The service is being tested in select postcodes in Southwark in London, with plans to roll out the service to further areas in the coming months. Customers in eligible postcodes will be able to find Amazon Now in the menu at the top of the Amazon homepage or app.
Amazon Now is available seven days a week through the Amazon app and website and offers thousands of products across 35 categories delivered in about 30 minutes or less.
“Amazon Now brings a new level of speed and convenience to customers, delivering thousands of groceries and household essentials in less than 30 minutes,” said John Boumphrey (UK Country Manager of Amazon).
“It’s the latest example of our commitment to faster delivery, building on the millions of items we already deliver the same or next day to customers across the UK.”
Prime members get discounted Amazon Now delivery fees starting at just £1.99 per order (vs. £3.99 for non-Prime members). More news about the offering will follow in the coming months, the group said.
Faster deliveries
Over the last few years, delivery speeds have accelerated for Prime members, with Same-Day and One-Day Delivery available on millions of items, Amazon said.
It added that delivering packages faster isn’t a matter of moving faster within facilities or in transport, but through Amazon’s continuous innovation across its operations network – including placing products closer to customers, meaning they have less distance to travel and can get there quicker.
This forms part of a great investment in the UK, which includes a £40 billion investment in the UK over the next three years. This demonstrates ongoing commitment to delivering innovation and customer convenience, it said. It added that the overall investment will create thousands of jobs and drive innovation across all UK operations.
