Unmissable sports events coming to London in 2026
London will play host to many major sporting events in 2026, from the Six Nations rugby to the first-ever college American football match hosted at Wembley Stadium.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan has said next year will be an exceptional year for sport in the capital, building on the successes of new and long-established fixtures hosted in the city in 2025.
NBA basketball will return to London in 2026, with the first game between the Orlando Magic and the Memphis Grizzlies to be hosted on 18 January at the O2 Arena.
Lord’s will also play host to the final of the ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup on 5 July 2026. The semi-finals will be hosted at the Oval on 30 June and 2 July, with both venues hosting key matches across the group stages of the tournament.
Women’s tennis will return to The Queen’s Club for the first time in over 50 years, as the venue will host the HSBC Championships in June, setting the stage for high-level tennis competition ahead of Wimbledon later in the year.
The Laver Cup will also be hosted at the O2 in London next year, making the city the first to host the international tennis event twice.
The final game of the inaugural Nations Championship rugby event will be hosted in Twickenham next year, pitting 12 teams against each other over the summer and autumn, culminating in a double-header fixture at the end of November.

Mayor Sadiq Khan said that the city was also bidding to bring more women’s sport to residents of the capital, with UK bidding to stage the 2027 Tour de France Femmes.
The UK has also bid to host the 2029 World Athletics Championships in London, and it has submitted a joint bid to host the 2035 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“London is the undisputed sporting capital of the world and there are so many exciting events for Londoners and visitors to look forward to in 2026,” Khan said.
“From the return of the NBA and the Laver Cup to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, our capital will be home to the biggest and best sporting competitions over the next 12 months.”
“It’s a great opportunity for Londoners and visitors to attend some of these amazing sports events and experience everything our city has to offer, as we work to build a better, healthier, more prosperous London for everyone,” he said.
