Hundreds of artefacts stolen in Bristol Museum heist
Police have asked the public to help in the search for four men possibly involved in a high-value heist that saw more than 600 artefacts stolen from the Bristol Museum.
The artefacts were of various descriptions and were taken from the Bristol Museum’s British Empire and Commonwealth collection on Thursday, 25 September.
Between 1-2am on that day, men gained access to a building in the Cumberland Road area of Bristol that housed many items from the museum’s collection.
The collection includes household belongings, souvenirs, photographs, and papers of British people who lived and worked in the colonies, as well as film and audio recordings.
Avon and Somerset Police said they were interested in speaking to the four people pictured in the image below, as they believe they would be able to aid them in their enquiries.
All four men are believed to be white and of varying builds, with one appearing to walk with a slight limp in his right leg.
“The theft of many items which carry a significant cultural value is a significant loss for the city,” said DC Dan Burgan, the officer in the case.
“These items, many of which were donations, form part of a collection that provides insight into a multi-layered part of British history, and we are hoping that members of the public can help us to bring those responsible to justice.”
“So far, our enquiries have included significant CCTV enquiries as well as forensic investigations and speaking liaising with the victims,” he said.
Burgan added that should anyone recognise the men pictured in the CCTV image or see any of the possible items being sold online, they should call 101 and quote reference 5225269603.
