Rockstar Games has announced that it has delayed the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI until late 2026.
In a statement on Thursday evening (6 November), the publisher said that the game will now release on Thursday, 19 November 2026.
“We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve,” it said.
Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) is one of the most highly anticipated games of all time and is expected to sell millions of copies. As of May 2025, Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 215 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video games of all time.
The game has been a commercial success since its 2013 release, continually selling millions of copies each year across multiple platforms, including PlayStation, Xbox, and PC.
The announcement comes days after Rockstar Games was accused by a trade union of sacking staff in the UK to stop them from unionising.
The Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), which represents people working in the gaming sector, said 31 workers were fired from Rockstar’s UK studios on 30 October.
The union led rallies outside the company’s offices in Edinburgh and London on Thursday to protest what it described as “the most blatant and ruthless act of union busting in the history of the games industry”.
