A major South London Borough has announced its new growth plan, which will create capacity for 14,000 across a well-connected ‘growth corridor’.

Wandsworth Council has published a long-term plan for growth that focuses on delivering thousands of affordable new homes, good local jobs, and neighbourhood investment.

A cornerstone of the plan is Wandsworth’s vision to create a dynamic ‘growth corridor’ centred around Clapham Junction, the busiest interchange in the United Kingdom and a well-connected transport hub for many commuting within and into the city.

This stretch of the borough extends from central London through Battersea and Nine Elms, then onwards to Clapham Junction and Wandsworth Town.

The council said the corridor will unlock land for future development, enhance transport links, and create vibrant, connected communities through place-based investment.

It added that through its place-based renewal and investment plan, Wandsworth would be able to create capacity for over 14,000 new homes across the corridor, split among development in Battersea and Nine Elms, Winstanley York Road and Clapham Junction, and Wandsworth Town.

In alignment with the London Growth Plan, capacity for the following number of new homes has been identified in these areas within the Clapham Junction Growth Corridor:

  • Battersea and Nine Elms – 8,400 homes
  • Winstanley York Road and Clapham Junction – 3,000 homes
  • Wandsworth Town – 3,000 homes

“This plan will be activated by a new Clapham Junction Growth Corridor, extending from Battersea and Nine Elms, through Clapham Junction and onwards to Wandsworth Town. These strategic opportunities position Wandsworth as a key driver of the capital’s future prosperity,” said Wandsworth Council Leader Simon Hogg.

“Our foundation for delivery combines an ambitious Corporate Plan with an up-to-date Local Plan and efficient planning system. Through collective action and collaborative governance, we are building a forward-thinking council with innovation at its core.”

“We would love to welcome you to Wandsworth soon,” Hogg said.
