  • Iran-Israel conflict hits markets: Israel has attacked Iran’s nuclear programme and missile sites with a wave of airstrikes, a major escalation between the two which risks sparking a wider war in the Middle East. The FTSE 100, which closed at a record high yesterday, is indicated to fall about 0.5%, not as severe as declines of around 1.7% for US and European equities. [Bloomberg]
  • Councils warn of mass bankruptcies: Council leaders in England have warned that a multi-billion pound deficit from years of overspending on special educational needs has become a burning platform that will push scores of councils into bankruptcy within months. [Guardian]
  • Air India crash: Regulators are looking for answers after an Air India passenger plane bound for London’s Gatwick airport crashed shortly after taking off in Ahmedabad, western India, on Thursday, killing 241 passengers and crew.
