Amazon expands 30-minute delivery service to Manchester and Birmingham

Key Points

  • Amazon Now, the 30-minute grocery delivery service, expands to Manchester and Birmingham later in 2026.
  • The service also reaches more London postcodes as Amazon doubles its UK micro fulfilment network from 10 sites.
  • Prime members pay delivery fees from £1.99 per order, against £3.99 for non-Prime members.
  • A £2 fee applies to all orders under £25 regardless of Prime membership.
  • Deliveries cover thousands of products across 35 categories using electric-assisted pedal bikes.

Amazon will extend its Amazon Now ultra-fast delivery service to Manchester and Birmingham for the first time later this year, bringing thousands of groceries and household essentials to customers in about 30 minutes or less.

The expansion will also reach more locations across London, where the service currently operates in select postcodes, as part of a plan to double Amazon’s UK micro fulfilment network from its current 10 sites.

Amazon Now operates seven days a week through the Amazon app and website, offering thousands of products across 35 categories delivered using electric-assisted pedal bikes.

Customers in eligible postcodes can order everyday items including milk, eggs, fresh fruit and veg, toothpaste, pet treats, nappies and over-the-counter medicines, with deliveries arriving in about half an hour.

The service relies on a network of micro fulfilment centres positioned near residential and inner-city areas. Current sites are located in Southwark, Bethnal Green, Battersea, Lewisham, Hampstead, Notting Hill, Haringey, Walthamstow and Wembley. Amazon said it plans to double that network as the service grows.

John Boumphrey, UK Country Manager of Amazon, said Amazon Now delivers thousands of groceries and household essentials in less than 30 minutes. Boumphrey said the service builds on the millions of items Amazon already delivers the same or next day to customers across the UK.

What it costs for shoppers

Prime members pay discounted Amazon Now delivery fees starting at £1.99 per order, compared with £3.99 for non-Prime members. A £2 fee applies to all orders under £25 regardless of membership status.

Prime members also receive free delivery on millions of items across other categories, alongside access to deals and shopping events such as Prime Day.

The pricing structure means shoppers below the £25 threshold pay the £2 charge on top of any applicable delivery fee, a detail customers will want to weigh when placing smaller orders.

Growing demand for grocery delivery

Amazon said groceries and household essentials now account for one in three items ordered daily on its platform.

In early 2025, its Everyday Essentials category, which covers groceries and household items, grew almost twice as fast as all other categories. Amazon Now customers will have access to a curated selection of the most popular products in this category.

The company said it continues to invest in placing products closer to customers to cut delivery distances and times. Customers in eligible postcodes can find Amazon Now in the menu at the top of the Amazon homepage or app.

The launch follows Amazon’s announcement of a £40 billion investment in the UK over the next three years. Amazon said the investment will create thousands of jobs and support innovation across its UK operations.

Customers outside current Amazon Now postcodes will need to wait for the wider rollout, with Amazon saying more details on the Manchester and Birmingham expansion will follow in the coming months.
